CHERISH: A 21-Day Journey Toward Falling in Love with God's Word

By Gary Rohrmayer

“If we do not love the Bible, we certainly do not love the God who gave it to us; but if we do love God, then no other book in the entire world will be comparable in our minds.”

—Charles Spurgeon

As we take this 21-day journey through Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, we hope that you will fall in love with the Word of God and the God of the Word. That you will see it as a sacred text worthy of your honor. That you will entrust your life to its truth and promises. That you will bring your life to compliance with its standards and values. That the Holy Spirit will quicken your heart and mind and reveal to you the wonders of God’s Word. In essence, we hope that you will learn to cherish God’s Word in your heart.

In Cherish, Gary Rohrmayer introduces you to the spiritual discipline of daily reading, memorizing, studying, and meditating on God’s Word. We hope this 21-day journey will teach you how to study the Bible for yourself and turn it into a 365-day spiritual habit.

Practical Advice for Doing a 21-Day Discipleship Campaign

Devote 4 to 6 weeks to this Discipleship Initiative.

  1. Preach a four-to-six-week sermon series on the Bible; call it Cherish.

    • Sermon #1 – Introduction to series and hand out the 21-day devotional book.

    • The next three sermons can be ideas from the book to reinforce it in the lives of your people.

    • See Sample Sermon starters.

  2. Read the Article – Ten Practical Steps to Creating Momentum with your team and see how to maximize your efforts.

  3. Invite them to courageously pray for friends and family far from Jesus.

    • Have them generate a list of 5 friends or family to pray for during the 21 days.

  4. Invite them to courageously pray for a list of church-wide prayer goals.

    • Have your leadership team develop five to six prayer goals for the church for your members to pray for during the 21 days. Sample:

      • Pray for a revival to break through our church.

      • Pray for a spiritual awakening to happen throughout our community.

      • Pray for the youth outreaches, various retreats, or special activities.

      • Pray for our pastoral staff that God would empower them (Ephesians 3:15).

      • Pray for the following cities as we seek to see a new church started there to see God’s kingdom expanded.

      • Pray for our missionaries that God will give them favor and effectiveness in their work (list them).

  5. Plan a half-day Seminar or Workshop on How to do Inductive Bible Study.

  6. Purchase the Cherish books at a discount from Amazon Kindle and Amazon’s Print on Demand Service. Ask for a $6 donation to cover the church’s expenses.

  7. Consider having Gary Rohrmayer speak on a Sunday during your series. Email us to check availability.

  8. Share your life transformation stories with us. Send us an email about all the work that God did during these 21 days.
